The gentle classic

Swedish massage is what most people picture when they think of a massage: warm oil, long gliding strokes, kneading and soft circles that follow the shape of the muscles. The pressure stays comfortable, the pace is unhurried, and the aim is simple. Help your body and your head slow down.

It is the massage we suggest for first-timers, for anyone who is nervous about firm pressure, and for the evenings when you just need quiet.

How a session goes

  • Private room, warm table. You undress to your comfort level and lie under a sheet. Only the area being worked on is uncovered.
  • Back first. Most sessions begin face down with the back and shoulders, then legs, arms, and a slow finish on the neck and scalp.
  • Your pressure. Swedish can be very light or a solid medium. Ask for more or less any time.

Who it suits

Swedish suits almost everyone: people new to massage, people who are tired rather than injured, guests who want help sleeping better, and travellers recovering from a long flight or a day on their feet in the city.

When to check first

If you have a fever, an infection, a recent injury or surgery, a blood-clotting condition, or you are pregnant, please speak with your doctor and tell us before you book. We will suggest what is safe and comfortable for you.

Add a little more

If you love the feel of Swedish but want scent and extra calm, book Aromatherapy. If you want some firmer work on a few knots too, our Combination massage mixes Swedish, Thai and deep tissue in one session at the same price.

Questions

Is Swedish good for a first massage?

Yes. It is gentle, predictable and easy to adjust, which makes it our usual recommendation for first-timers.

What do I wear?

You undress to your comfort level and stay covered by a sheet the whole time. Only the area being massaged is uncovered.

Can I ask for firmer pressure?

Of course. For a lot of firm work, though, Deep Tissue or Combination will suit you better.
