What scratch therapy is
Scratch therapy is the gentle, rhythmic scratching and stroking most of us remember from childhood, when someone scratched your back until you fell asleep. At Sabai we turned it into a calm, private ritual. You stay fully dressed, lie on a warm table, and your therapist slowly works across your back, arms and scalp with fingertips and soft tools. There is no oil and no deep pressure. The point is to help your nervous system slow down.
Many guests are asleep within the first fifteen minutes. That is a good sign.
How the Sabai Sleep Ritual works
- Settle in. Wear something comfortable or change into soft cotton clothes we provide. Lights go low and the room is quiet.
- Choose your tools. Your therapist shows you the tray: soft bristle brushes, a feather, a wooden scalp comb, a wire head massager. Pick what feels good and skip anything you don't like.
- Back and arms. Slow scratching and brushing over your clothes, in long, even strokes.
- Scalp. Light scratching and combing through the hair, finishing with gentle head holds.
- Wake slowly. A warm towel and Thai herbal tea before you go back out to 43rd Street.

Every tool is cleaned and disinfected after each guest.
Who it is for
The Sleep Ritual suits people who love having their back or head scratched, people who feel wired and stressed after work, light sleepers, travellers fighting jet lag, and anyone who wants to relax but does not want a firm massage. It is also a good first step for guests who are shy about massage, because you stay fully clothed.
When to choose something else
If you want knots worked out, this is not the session for that; book Deep Tissue or Thai Massage instead. Please tell us before you book if you have a skin condition, a scalp condition, sunburn or a recent injury, and we will adjust or suggest another treatment. This is a relaxation service, not a medical treatment.
How long to book
60 minutes covers back, arms and scalp at an unhurried pace. 90 minutes is our favourite if you plan to nap. 120 minutes is the full reset for the hardest weeks. On weekdays before 4 PM you save $15 when you book online in advance.
A clear, respectful service
The Sleep Ritual is a calm, non-sexual relaxation service. Guests stay clothed the whole time and our therapists keep to the back, arms and scalp. We will end any session, without refund, if a guest behaves inappropriately.
Questions
How much does scratch therapy cost at Sabai Thai Spa?
$139 for 60 minutes, $199 for 90 minutes and $259 for 120 minutes. On weekdays before 4 PM it is $15 less when you book online in advance.
Do I stay clothed during scratch therapy?
Yes. You stay fully clothed for the whole session. We can give you soft cotton clothes to change into if you prefer.
Is scratch therapy the same as massage?
No. It uses light scratching and soft tools instead of pressure, and no oil. If you want tension worked out, book a Thai or deep tissue massage.
